COMPUTING

Computing Intent Statement

Computing and Information and Communications Technology  play a vital role in our lives, particularly in current times where technologies are constantly changing and evolving. At Thames View Junior School we believe a sound knowledge and understanding of Computing enables and prepares pupils to be active participants in a world where work, and other activities, are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology. The Computing curriculum follows the Rising Stars ‘Switched on’ Scheme of work. It enables our children to develop and practise skills through accessible applications, software and programs available both in school and at home, ensuring they become competent and confident analytical thinkers, computer programmers and understand how technology works.
E-safety is a key focus in our curriculum and at Thames View Junior School – we ensure our children are taught the importance of safe internet use (at home and at school) during computing lessons and through a whole-school ‘Safer Internet’ focus day in February. Children have opportunities to use computing outside the timetabled lesson slot as it is embedded across the curriculum including activities in mathematics and English.
