Race and Social Justice (RSJ)
At Thames View Junior School we aim to make diversity and anti-racism central to our curriculum and practice, so that everyone feels valued and accepted for who they are and knows they belong. We are proud that our pupils and staff represent the diversity in our local community.
We strive to provide a broad and diverse learning experience that promotes equal opportunity, diversity and inclusivity. As a Rights Respecting school, we encourage pupil voice and participation in achieving our visions and aims.
Our school is implementing the Barking and Dagenham Race & Social Justice Charter. This is part of the wider race and social justice project which aims to ensure that all our young people have the best possible start in life.
The aims of the project are:
• Students’ experience of school, educational outcomes and life chances must not be adversely impacted by ethnic background or racial group
• The staff and leadership of our schools and borough must reflect our diversity
• Schools’ curriculum must reflect and celebrate the diversity of our borough
This charter is also reflected in our school values of respect, cooperation, compassion, honesty and courage.
We want all our pupils to feel valued see themselves in books they read. Here are some recommended books from ARISE (Anti-Racism in School and Education). Many of these can be found in our school and classroom libraries. Arise-KS2-Booklist
Article 2 (non-discrimination) The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, sex, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.
